Understanding data collection and security with Sam Trosow

Richard Raycraft

The internet is now ubiquitous in our society; this has led to the rise of the Internet of Things or IOT. IOT refers to any device that can connect with the internet and share data – an example of this is the smartphone.

IOT is convenient but it comes with a catch.

Sam Trosow, an associate professor at Western University in Law and FIMS, published a research paper which explains the negative consequences of the IOT. He primarily talks about the lack of clarity surrounding what data is collected by these companies and the security measures used to protect our data.

Sam Trosow spoke to Radio Western about this research.
